Jaime Andrés Beltrán, mayor of Bucaramanga, spoke about the situation of violence that is experienced throughout Colombia and focused the problem—among other aspects—on the education that is provided to young people from a very young age in each of their homes. . The local leader emphasized the need to correct people when they are making a mistake.
“Dialogue is always welcome, but when it ends there is the stick and this is also part of the training (…) If people do not understand that their bad decisions have consequences, I am forming a person who is going to be a problem for society. Unfortunately, today we are having to raise some vandals who did not raise in the house”, he noted.
As a humorous way, Beltrán recalled that he is part of the “leash generation”, something that, today, he does not practice with any of his children, but despite this he has always instilled in them the importance of doing things well. , respecting others and without harming anyone.
“Today, the correction methods are different (…) If I hit my children, I cry more than them. I understood and what I try to generate in the collective is that If someone wants to live without rules, let them go to the mountains and live alone, but whoever wants to live in a community must conform to the rules.”, he commented.
The president emphasized that if the person cannot respect the law, consequently there are sanctions that must be assumed with full responsibility. “It is coexistence and logic. “I don’t know why when people talk this way, they tell us that we are extremists,” he said.
“They are simply rules of coexistence, we can live in the midst of differences. (…) We may think differently, but we take the same transportation, we go to the same restaurants, being different, but it unifies us that we all live together. We don’t have to agree on the same thing, but we do have to agree on one thing: to live respecting differences”, he stated.
