– Immediately after the election of Donald Trump as president, I wrote that this could be a leaven of serious changes in Europe, and in particular in the European Union. Changes a plus, so that there is no doubt. Earlier, I thought that the war in Ukraine and its escalation would give Europe an impulse for joint action, while the European Cooperation was going to choose Trump very slowly – says Marek Zuber.
Our interlocutor admits that he did not expect such violent movements from the President of the United States as raising duties to goods, e.g. from China. He states, however, that the type of cold shower that Trump offered Europeans can go out to the old continent for good.
– Maybe it will lead to the fact that the European Union will actually start making decisions relevant from the point of view of the growth of the economy. The United States has gone around in the last dozen or so years when it comes to the size of the economy. In Europe, we are developing more slowly, of course I am talking about the entire European Union, in particular about the euro area. And we know why this is so. It is partly due to the ubiquitous bureaucracy – says Marek Zuber.
Investment in modern technologies is necessary
The expert argues that European Union countries must invest in the development of modern technologies. According to him, it is necessary to take a kind of competition with the United States in this area.
– American technological giants with profits of tens of billions of dollars, such as Apple, have regularly earned over $ 100 billion in the last four years. Meanwhile, the most worth the European company, German SAP, records profits of EUR 8-9 billion a year – indicates Marek Zuber.
Our interlocutor argues that although cooperation with the United States should still remain a priority for Europe, its current nature will change.
– I think the European Union will open to new areas. I am afraid of China, in short. This is not a democratic country. This is a country that steals technology that is cheating, which is not honest in trade relations. The best example of this practice are electric cars sold in Europe – says Marek Zuber.
Partners with rare land metals
When asked about potential partners for Europe, the expert points to both America, Canada or Mercosur countries.
– I imagine cooperation. Mercosur was presented mainly as a threat to Polish agriculture. Meanwhile, these countries have large metal resources of rare lands. It is an extremely important element today, especially when it comes to technological competition – emphasizes Marek Zuber.
