The National University of Colombia will hold a charity concert next Monday, December 9, designed to raise funds to guarantee food for the most needy students at the study center.

“Through this concert, we seek to support young people from strata 1 and 2 who, despite their academic effort, face economic difficulties,” the institution said in a statement.

The event, which will feature the participation of the university’s Cultural Heritage Directorate, in alliance with the music conservatory, will take place at 7:30 pm at the Cafam Theater facilities (Carrera 68 n 90-88 Bogotá). In addition, it will have the staging of more than 100 artists.

The university explained that the funds raised will go to a trust to guarantee transparency in the investment of resources and will be used to finance the feeding of the University’s low-income students, within the framework of the Feeding Dreams Program.

“Education is the most powerful tool to transform lives and communities. This concert is an opportunity for all those who believe in the mission of our university to collaborate in a concrete way with those students who need it most,” said Joaquín Romero, director of the Student Support Fund of the National University.

Program Notes

Gabriel Faure (1845-1924). On November 4, 2024, the 100th anniversary of the death of the French composer, organist, pedagogue and pianist Gabriel Fauré was commemorated. Among his teachers are Louis Niedermeye and Camille Saint-Saëns, who introduced him to the music of Liszt and Wagner. His contemporary, composer equally relevant to what was called French Impressionism, was Claude Debussy. Over the years, Faure was recognized as a great master of French Song and at the age of 60 he was named director of the Paris Conservatory.

For this concert, a tribute to Gabriel Fauré, the university chose a program of French music by composers who are friends and contemporaries of the composer. Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun by Claude Debussy, premiered in 1894, aroused admiration and marked a change in the trends of symphonic music due to the fluidity in the form of writing.
