PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna concluded a contract with LG Energy Solution Wrocław for the construction of an electricity warehouse in Żarnowiec. The investment will cost PLN 1.555 billion gross. Completion of construction is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027. According to the contract, the nominal capacity of the warehouse will be about 981 MWh. The power achievement in the direction of discharge is 262.2 MW, and in the charging direction 269.4 MW.
The battery energy magazine will be located in Żarnowiec in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, nearby Żarnowiec’s largest pupal-pump power plant in Polandbelonging to PGE Energia
“We are preparing to start construction The largest energy storage in Poland in Poland and one of the largest investments in Europe. The first, large -scale, battery energy magazine in PGE will be created in Żarnowiec, thus we enter the new era of energy storage in our group. It will ensure better energy balancing in the power network by giving power to the system during periods of increased demand and at the same time insufficient renewable energy production, and Downloading it in moments of overproduction from renewable sources, thus allowing them to be used more effectively. In practice, this means that in two years during the evening increase in electricity demand in Poland we will be able to return to the network Pure energy even for 250 thousand households” – said Dariusz Marzec, president of the board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
First license in Poland
According to PGE in a press release, the project received the first promise of a concession for electricity storage and has a connection agreement to the national power system. Earlier, in December last year He obtained a 17-year contract in the power market auction for 2029.
PGE energy storage leader in Poland
PGE is already a leader in energy storage. The company is close 90 percent shares in peak-pumped power plants. In addition, the group also has other energy warehouses. The first modular PGE energy warehouse in Poland is located Rzepedzi in Podkarpacie. A magazine with a power of approx. 2.1 MW and a capacity of 4.2 MWhit was designed to support the reliability of the local distribution network. It has been operating since 2020. The second warehouse was launched in 2021 by PGE Energia Renewable On Mount Żar in the Śląskie Voivodeship. This warehouse has a power of 500 kW and a usable capacity of 750 kWh.
PGE Energetyka Kolejowa built Energy warehouse in Garbce near Wrocław with a capacity of 5.5 MW and a useful capacity of 1.2 MWh, which is the largest energy magazine working for traction needs in Europe.
Further warehouses under construction
PGE also works on Battery Energy Warehouse in Gryfino in the province. West Pomeranian 400 MW and capacity of not less than 800 MWhwhich is planned for use for 2029.
PGE is also planning construction 26 Distributed electricity warehouses with power from 2 MW to 10 MWlocated in five provinces (Masovian, Podkarpackie, Łódź, Lublin, Podlasie).
