Pesa has concluded a contract with ARF (Romanian Railway Reform Agency) for the supply of 62 electric multiple units (EMUs) for three regions: Bucharest, Iasi and Cluj, the manufacturer announced.
“The Regio vehicles that Pesa will produce for the Romanian Railways are 3-section electric multiple units built on separate bogies, capable of speeds of up to 160 km/h, with 224 seats, adapted to the needs of disabled people, powered by the AC 25kV traction network and equipped with in the Romanian PZB 90 security system and the latest ETCS,” we read in the release.

In December, Pesa signed a contract with ARF for the delivery of 20 (+9 in option) Inter-Regio class vehicles. Under both contracts, the Bydgoszcz manufacturer will also provide vehicle maintenance services to ARF for 15 years, and for this purpose, Pesa, together with the state-owned Railways CFR Calatori, will establish local service centers. In this respect, Pesa has already signed preliminary agreements with the state-owned companies CFR Calatori and CFR SA, it was recalled.
“We want to consistently increase our presence in Romania. We will soon open our office in Bucharest, and we are also starting the process of preparing for the launch of service centers. We want to create them based on cooperation with local partners – so we have a lot of work ahead of us,” added Hanna Wiśniewska, Pesa’s representative in Romania Sirbu, quoted in the material.
So far, Pesa has delivered trams to the Romanian market in 2012-2023. There are already 37 of them in total, in Cluj, Iasi and Craiova.
Pesa Bydgoszcz is a Polish manufacturer of rail vehicles, which also deals with modernization, repairs and inspections of rolling stock.
