“This year, we are starting the construction of an onshore transformer station and onshore export lines for Baltica 2, i.e. the connection infrastructure necessary to extract 1.5 GW of power from our first offshore wind farm. It is with the onshore connection that the construction of the offshore power plant begins. Finalization of this The contract is largely due to specialists in power evacuation from PGE Baltica, which is implementing an offshore program within the PGE Group,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski, president of Polska Grupa Energetyczna, quoted in the release.
“The Baltica 2 offshore wind farm will provide energy for the needs of Pomerania, which is currently largely powered from the south of Poland. An additional source will increase the energy security not only of the region, but of the entire country. The first electricity from Baltica 2 will be fed into the National Power System in 2027 “- added the president of PGE.
Managing director of Ørsted Offshore Poland, Agata Staniewska-Bolesta, noted that last year we managed to sign all contracts for the supply of components at sea, as well as some of the installation contracts, for which Ørsted was responsible. By signing the contract for the construction of onshore power evacuation infrastructure for the Baltica 2 project, we are taking big steps closer to the implementation of this pioneering project for offshore wind energy in Poland – she emphasized.
“We are extremely proud to have been selected for this key project for Poland’s energy transformation and energy security. Together with our consortium partner Polimex Mostostal, we are ready to bring our knowledge and cutting-edge technologies to Baltica 2 to ensure effective integration of its energy with the National Power System” – said Johan Bindele, head of Network Systems Integration in the GE Vernova department responsible for network solutions.
The onshore connection infrastructure for the Baltica 2 project will be built in Pomerania, near the town of Osieki Lęborskie in the Choczewo commune, Wejherowo poviat. The general contractor will build it in the so-called turnkey formula, i.e. it will prepare a facility ready for use. The task of building an onshore connection includes the construction of 275/400 kV high-voltage stations and onshore export lines necessary to transfer power to the National Power System. Construction works will start in 2024. Testing and launch of the land station is scheduled for 2026 and 2027.
Baltica 2 is one of two – next to Baltica 3 – stages of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. PGE and Ørsted plan to complete the construction of the Baltica 2 stage with a capacity of approx. 1.5 GW by the end of 2027, and the Baltica 3 stage with a capacity of approx. 1 GW by 2030. Investors are still waiting to make the final investment decision (FID). Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will create the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which will significantly contribute to the transformation of the Polish energy sector, providing green energy to almost 4 million households in Poland.
