Tesla quickly loses the European market. Why does the EU turn away from Musk?

Tesla is losing the European market

This means that Tesla’s problem does not result from the weakening of the demand for electric cars, but rather from growing competition and changes in the brand’s perception.

The decrease in registration of new Tesla in Europe is a continuation of the trend observed in 2024. Over the past four quarters, Elona Muska has achieved worse results three times than the general EV market, and its share in the European electric vehicle market has decreased from 18.2% in 2023 to 16.6% in 2024 and only 6% in January 2025. This is a significant loss of position, especially in the face of the dynamic increase in the sale of electric cars by traditional manufacturers, such as Volkswagen, BMW or Mercedes-Benz, who are increasingly better adapting to the expectations of customers.

Reasons for the weakness of Tesla in Europe

One of the reasons for Tesla’s weakening position is the lack of new models that could attract customers. The company has been based on the same constructions for years, while competition is intensively developing the offer and introduces innovative solutions to the market – writes the statista. However, another key factor may be the image of Elon Musk himself. His controversial role in Donald Trump’s administration and more and more polarizing statements meant that many potential customers are distanced from the brand. Protests in front of Tesla showrooms, resignation from the purchase of her cars or even the sale of their vehicles indicate that the company’s image ceases to be consistent with the expectations of European consumers.

Although Tesla remains a significant player on the electric vehicle market, its future in Europe is becoming more and more uncertain. If the company does not find a way to rebuild customer confidence and adapt the offer to changing realities, its dominance in the EV segment can go into history.
