Autonomous driving – deadlines

The official Tesla AI account on Platform X (formerly Twitter) posted on Thursday a roadmap with deadlines for implementing individual technologies related to autonomous driving.

The information shows that Tesla is in the process of obtaining permission from authorities in China and Europe to use autonomous driving systems. For Tesla, this is a very important step from the point of view of the company’s development and competitiveness, because obtaining the appropriate approvals will allow the company to maintain an advantage over Chinese rivals who are already working on similar systems.

From the June statement Elon Musk it appears that his company should obtain the necessary approvals for FSD technology by the end of the year.

Tough Market in China

Tesla has managed to do a lot in terms of gaining trust in the Chinese market. The company first had to go through the proper safety tests data and then signed a contract with Chinese tech giant Baidu regarding maps and navigation. Tesla also received approval to test autonomous driving technology on the streets of Shanghai.

Autonomous driving technology

Still, FSD technology is subject to intense scrutiny, especially in the United States. Despite its name, Full Autonomous Driving (FSD) technology does not allow the driver to be distracted while driving. On the contrary, the driver must keep his hands on the steering wheel and keep his eyes on the road at all times.

Tesla’s Competitive Advantage

If the FDS technology is formally approved and approved for use, Tesla will be able to maintain its competitive advantage in China. The Middle Kingdom is Tesla’s largest foreign market. And at the same time, it is very competitive, as many Chinese companies are hot on Tesla’s heels, developing their own autonomous driving systems and eroding Tesla’s market share. Tesla’s deliveries to China in the first eight months of this year fell by about 6% compared with the same period last year, according to the latest data from the China Passenger Car Association.
