With a wide academic, humanistic and diverse offer, The Nueva Granada Military University (UMNG) celebrated its 42nd anniversary, an opportunity to reaffirm its contribution to society.
To this end, the institution designed 137 academic programs: four doctorates, 16 master’s degrees, 39 undergraduate degrees, 49 medical-surgical specializations, 29 university specializations and 39 technologies. It also offers training in fields such as international relations, strategy and security, economic sciences, engineering, medicine and health sciences, basic and applied sciences, and law.
Their efforts have focused on identifying challenges such as the lack of job opportunities for young people, the loss of values, climate change, accelerated urbanization, inequality, lack of support for research and national security needs. For this, the rector, major general (r) of the Army, Javier Alberto Ayala Amaya Pd. D., presented a plan based on inclusive education and social transformation, supported by new technologies.
“The impact of the strategies of international projection, launch of programs, publications, research and innovation at the UMNG is transcendental for its consolidation as a key actor in the academic and social spheres,” highlighted the rector, who served seven months in office. .
At that time, The university launched the High Multidimensional Strategic Leadership Program (Palem), a proposal that develops advanced and comprehensive strategic skills for human security and national defense. Likewise, the Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and Peace Education began, the first undergraduate degree that will provide tools to build a country in peace, with social justice and in defense of human rights. He also created the Sustainability and Human Rights Observatory, for the transfer and social appropriation of knowledge.
Train leaders
The university maintains its international projection by offering students, teachers and administrative staff exchange and mobility opportunities. In addition, it reached 15th place in the U-Sapiens Ranking, standing out for its scientific production in critical areas such as security, public health and environmental sustainability. With an investment of 17,000 million pesos, it also finances innovative projects in biotechnology, social sciences, engineering and medicine.
Likewise, it implemented a call system that selects high-impact projects from the 109 research hotbeds, including 68 research groups recognized by the Ministry of Science: eight in category A1; 13 in A; 12 in B, and 35 in C, as well as 12 research centers aligned to each faculty.
