The Colombian music industry is in mourning. This Tuesday, May 21, the death of the renowned composer Omar Geles was confirmed in Valledupar. The artist, 57, suffered cardiac arrest while playing tennis at a club in the city.
“Love of my entire life, you left me without you. I have no strength, love, you took them all”was the farewell message that his wife, Maren García, wrote through Instagram stories, in which she uploaded a photo of the singer.
The death of the Cesar musician caused great sadness among his followers and colleagues. Rafael Pérez, one of the vallenato singers closest to Geles, spoke exclusively with him and assured that he was the “mastermind” of the genre.
“Omar Geles composed in all styles and has multiple hits. In the last 30 years, Most of the hits of Vallenata music are his. What we have lost is a bastion of Colombian folklore. “He lived to make hit songs,” she initially indicated.
Then he added: “Silvestre told him at the concert, that he had been very important in the careers of many musicians. We had immense joy on Saturday at the concert, because We had the opportunity to be with several of the vallenatos singers, and we didn't know what they were going to do as a tribute to him. The hospital issued a press release this Wednesday and confirmed that Omar Geles died after suffering syncope while playing a tennis match.
