“The intended concentration involves the establishment by SCA PR Polska sp. z o. o. (hereinafter Intermarche) and Auchan Polska sp. z o. o. (hereinafter Auchan) of a joint venture (…). The intended activity of the joint venture will consist in organizing and conducting negotiations with suppliers products or services that Intermarche and Auchan purchase for their own needs to conduct their business,” we read in the first application.
Auchan Polska and Intermarché with a purchasing alliance?
“The intended activity of the joint venture will consist in conducting commercial negotiations with selected suppliers of food and non-food products, selling these products directly to Intermarche and Auchan,” we read in the second application.
Earlier in May this year the companies informed that Auchan Polska and Intermarché have established a partnership whose aim is to create a long-term purchasing alliance on the Polish market. The chains submitted two applications to the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) for consent to concentration. The agreement is expressed in a signed letter of intent in which both chains agreed to establish joint purchasing structures for the next 10 years.
The partners expect that their cooperation will translate into strengthening relationships with suppliers – by expanding their business prospects, as well as increasing the attractiveness of the prices of the products offered as a result of combining the purchasing power of both brands. The final beneficiaries of the established alliance will be Polish consumers, who will gain access to a wide range of products at prices that allow them to manage their household budgets more efficiently. The retail chains announced then that if the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection consent to the concentration is obtained, a binding agreement will be concluded between the chains. This may happen by the end of the third quarter of this year.
