Polish companies are experiencing a shortage of SAP specialists. What do they do and how much can they earn?

As reported, 28% of people working with the SAP system changed jobs in the last 12 months. 77.4% of them indicated that it was their individual decision, 17.8% answered that it was due to the end of a previous project, and 4.8% of respondents changed jobs as a result of being laid off.

“Of course, seniors and experts with over 10 years of experience can count on the most job offers. An additional advantage is knowledge of foreign languages - not only English, but also German. Almost half of such IT experts work for foreign companies, especially from Germany,” said Anna Jaglińska-Prawdzik, co-author of the report, quoted in the report.

SAP employees receive pay rises

The report shows that 72.8% of IT specialists working in the SAP area received a raise last year. In addition, 51.5% of respondents indicated that their earnings increased by more than 10%. However, 22.3% reported that their remuneration increased, but by less than 10%, and 24.5% responded that their remuneration did not change. In contrast, 1.7% of respondents reported that their remuneration decreased.

According to the authors of the report, the high demand for specialists in this field is due to the new version of the SAP system software – S/4HANA. “After 2027, the system manufacturer will stop supporting older versions. This forces companies to carry out migration projects and in a short time,” the report explains.

Growing demand for SAP specialists

As stated in the report, the demand for employees in the SAP area is equally strong in the DACH countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) and Scandinavia. In these countries, the system has been used longer than in Poland, but “specialists did not transfer competences to younger employees at the right time”. (…) Currently, the core of these markets are employees aged 55+, while in Poland it is 30-39 years old” – it was reported.

It was added that Poles also know an average of 2.5 SAP modules, while abroad it is usually one module. “Despite the increase in rates, Poles are still about 30 percent cheaper than specialists from the West. Currently, the most common rate on a contract is PLN 200-225 net per hour, and in the case of an employment contract PLN 20-25 thousand gross per month,” it was reported.

“The SAP labor market is in much better shape than the entire IT sector. Such high demand for labor will continue until around 2030, when most companies will migrate. Then it will return to normal levels. So there will be no shortage of work, but the demand for experts will be similar to the rest of the IT market,” it was concluded.

The data comes from the Awareson report “SAP labor market in Poland. Analysis and forecasts 2024-2026”, developed on the basis of a study with the participation of nearly 1,200 SAP specialists.

Awareson is a consulting company that specializes in outsourcing of technological services as well as IT recruitment and SAP recruitment. (PAP)
